Water safety on your Sunshine Coast holiday
The sun's out on the Sunshine Coast and everyone is heading down to the beach. There's endless amounts of fun for families and children, building sandcastles, splashing about in the water and enjoying water sports. Don't let your fantastic Sunshine Coast holiday be ruined by tragedy though. Make sure you know how to keep you and your family safe while at the beach and around pools.
Lifeguards aren't just around the beaches to look pretty. Never swim on an unpatrolled beach, especially if your whole group is going in the water. The lifeguards are there to keep you safe and provide immediate first aid if someone gets into trouble in the water. Remember that even a very competent swimmer can be caught by currents and encounter danger from boats and other water sports.
The Sunshine Coast is the perfect vacation destination for families. There's so much to see and do that your holiday will keep everyone happy, from the baby to Grandma. Sunshine Coast accommodation has plenty to offer, with various sized rooms and on-site facilities, including outdoor pools. Have fun on the beach and at the hotel pool, but always be safety conscious.
Young children and babies should always be supervised by an adult. Even if you just nip inside to fetch something, that's all the time a child needs to slip and fall by a pool or jump into the deep end and get into trouble. Always follow the pool rules and make sure your children know it's important to obey them too.
Don't swim in the pool without a lifeguard. If it's a private pool in Sunshine Coast accommodation, it's a good idea to nominate a responsible adult to sit out and watch for trouble. This is especially important if there are lots of people in the pool. Make sure that for every two children there is an adult or older child present. Lifeguards don't just dive in to help swimmers in trouble. They blow their whistle at anybody acting unsafely. Never push someone into a pool or hold someone under the water. Always walk in the pool area and take care not to slip.
Sunshine Coast resorts usually have pools ideal to enjoy the warm weather. Stay safe and make the most of the sun! Your accommodation will also be a short distance away from the beach, lakes and rivers. It's just as important to take care here as at the poolside.
Wear protective footwear when swimming in water you can't see the bottom of. There could be sharp rocks, broken glass or other nasty surprises lurking under the surface. Always swim with someone else and have a cell phone nearby to call for help if something goes wrong. Boat rides are a fantastic way to enjoy the view without getting wet but you should always wear a life jacket and have an emergency life belt at hand.
Come on down to the Sunshine Coast and discover our beautiful, sandy beaches and luxury Sunshine Coast accommodation for yourself. Have fun, but be sensible. Fooling around will only end up in someone getting hurt. Make the most of the summery weather while it lasts!
