Internet Censorship Filter in Oz! 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
The Australian Government wants to put this filter in place to help the young people of our generation and future generations from accessing porn as a rule of thumb. In turn one of the negatives is the internet for australian users may slow up by 87%.

honestly Internet in Australia 87% slower than what? a snail? It is already slow enough. Other countries are experiencing 40-50mbps connections with 100GB+ of data transfer for the price people here in Australia are paying for their basic adsl 1 plan. If the Australian Government wants to do something this stupid to the internet it will certainly affect the IT industry and send our connectivity to the stone ages!

If there is any cave men out there with fibre optic cable we will need it if the government gets their way!

You're right Nultz....but it's not just about porn being selectively banned. A whole range of other unfavourable (according to whom) websites are going to be banned such as those dealing with issues of anorexia and euthanasia.

And will we be advised by the government if a site has been banned by them....I bet not. We will be sent to Google and wondering my our _link_ has not worked.

I have no problem with banning child porn....as long as that's what it is....but being selecitive about what we can view or read about is tantamount to full-on censorship by Chairman Rudd and his cohorts.

If they're worried about what children "might" see why not ban children from using the Internet and make it available for anyone over 18.
