Sunshine Coast Wedding Speeches - Tips to Help You Write a Great Speech Sunshine Coast wedding

No matter what your role is in a wedding, all Sunshine Coast wedding reception venues offer the opportunity to have a round of speeches at the wedding reception. Whether you're writing the father of the bride speech, the best man speech, maid of honour speech, or another wedding speech, you want to make sure it's just perfect for this special day. This is definitely not something you want to leave for the last minute. Here are some tips and ideas to help you write a speech that is appropriate and memorable for a Sunshine Coast wedding.

Five Parts to Any Wedding Speech
When writing wedding speeches, it's easy to find yourself wondering what to say. There are some particular parts that should generally be included in your speech. Here are the five parts that every wedding speech should have.

  • Welcome and congrats to the bride and groom
  • Compliments to the couple and some personal notes
  • Comments on key events
  • Anecdotes or stories
  • Best wishes and a toast

Seven Great Tips

Of course, there are some do's and don'ts you need to remember when you are writing wedding speeches that you need to keep in mind.

  1. As soon as you are asked to give a speech at a wedding, start gathering ideas and information to help you with your speech. Never leave it all until the last minute.
  2. Find out if there is an order of speeches at the wedding reception. Find out if you will need to reply to another toast that has been made.
  3. Never be negative in the speech. Avoid religion, politics, sex, and sad things. Keep the speech polite and appropriate as well.
  4. Ask the bride and groom if they have a special subject or theme they'd like you to speak about in the speech.
  5. Avoid bringing up embarrassing moments or the past relationships of the couple. These things won't be funny to the couple on their wedding day.
  6. Don't write a formal speech. Keep the tone light and friendly. As you write your speech, write it as you would write a letter to a good friend.
  7. Make sure that nothing you use in the speech will offend the guests, friends, the family, or the couple.

The Order of Wedding Speeches

One question that many people have about wedding speeches is the order they are supposed to occur in. Here is the traditional order that is usually followed.

  1. Father of the Bride Speech - Usually the father of the bride is the first one to speak, paying tribute to his daughter.
  2. Groom Speech - Next the groom usually stands and delivers a speech, thanking people for coming and complimenting his bride.
  3. Best Man Speech - Then comes the speech by the best man. This is usually meant to be entertaining and light in nature.
  4. Maid of Honour Speech - This speech is similar to the speech of the best man in style and is meant to pay tribute to the happy couple.
  5. Other Speeches - Any other speeches that are included go after the first four speeches.

Of course, while this is usually the traditional order of wedding speeches, the bride and groom can change this order to suit their needs or their likes for their Sunshine Coast wedding. It's always fine to have more speeches involved in the wedding and to choose any order you'd prefer to have them in.
